Joe Eugene is a longtime resident of Santa Cruz County. He graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School in 1967 and has lived in the area ever since. He attended a cluster college of the University of the Pacific that taught all its classes in Spanish. As a result he speaks pretty good Spanish for a gringo. He stays in practice with Spanish radio, TV and movies and has recently traveled in Peru, Chile, and Argentina. He retired in 2005 from a thirty-year career with the County of Santa Cruz, first as an adult social worker and then as a mainframe programmer/analyst. He is a gay man and a survivor of two long-term relationships totaling 27 years. Hobbies include digital photo restoration, voracious reading, travel and travel-related eating, and enthusiastic lolling. He was trained as a Triangle Speaker in 2003 and has done many gigs, including several at his old high school. He joined the board of directors in 2006 and was elected treasurer.[ back to top ]
